The Corning Bobcats baseball team look to be a competitive opponent this season with many returning players in 2020. The Bobcats did lose a couple seniors last year and will need to fill the 3rd baseman, pitcher and catcher positions. Coach Kyle George is confident he has just the players to replace those positions.
Monday, Feb. 17, the Cats took on Walnut Ridge in a home tournament game. It was a team effort with Jayden Wiedeman as top scorer for Corning with 19 points in the form of 8 points from the field, two 3-pointers and 5 points from the charity stripe. Colby Briney chimed in with 13 points in two 2-pointers and three 3-point shots. Cyle Briney shot 12 points with a 2-pointer and three 3-point shots. Dylan Richmond added to the score with 10 points from the field. Cole Briney chipped in 5 points, Clayton Kemp added 4 points and Cade Briney popped in 2 points for the Bobcats.
In a Monday night matchup against Piggott on Feb. 17, the Lady Cats battled the Mohawks from the getgo. Piggott maintained a lead out of the gate in the first quarter of play.
The Corning Sr. Boys defeated the Mustangs in a conference game played in Hoxie on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The Jr. Bobcats defeated Trumann in their second game of the District Tournament with a score of 33- 23 on Thursday, Feb. 13 in Manila. Jayce Couch scored 16 points with five 2-pointers and 6 points from the free throw line. Clayton VanPool scored 6 points, Eli Mason chipped in 5 points, Luke Blanchard added 4 points and John Swint provided 2 points.
