WR late inning heroics down Lady Cats - 9 to 7
Coach Jerry Songer and the Corning Lady Bobcats stood toe to toe and nearly upset the second place team in 3-3A Thursday, March 28 in Corning. Walnut Ridge only scored in two of the seven innings in this game. One inning was a huge feeding frenzy for their batters scoring seven runs in the top of the fifth, and the other was the dramatic top of the seventh that retook the lead for good. Corning batters struggled with the Walnut Ridge starter early on striking out 10 times in the first six innings. The Cats did manage to score a run in the third and answer the huge Walnut Ridge fifth inning with four runs of their own. Corning then tacked on two more in the sixth to retake the lead heading into the final inning of play. Corning gave up 10 base hits and committed seven errors in the loss. Jackie Buckhanan delivered at the plate going two for four with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored. Caroline Goodman knocked in two runs herself with a two run single. Steffani Hampton was one for three with a double, a RBI, a walk and two runs scored.
