What is sports without a true rival?
This is a two-part chronicle about the topic of sports rivalry in Arkansas.
Before we dive headfirst into the topic of rivalry, we should first examine and ask the question, “What exactly is a rivalry?” According to Webster’s Dictionary a rivalry is competition with one another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity. Of course there are different opinions of what makes a rivalry special or what is actually considered a rivalry for that matter. One thing is for certain; down through history since concept of competition and sports began, there is always that one team on any schedule that is THE team to beat. A rivalry game can create, hamper or cement a team’s legacy. The one verb I directly associate with a rivalry is the term passion.
