Sr. Boy’s season comes to a halt in District Tournament
Corning’s Senior Boy’s season came to an end in the District Tournament at Manila on Monday, February 12. The Bobcats of Corning fell to the Walnut Ridge Bobcats in the first round by a final score of 52 to 34. Corning simply dug an early hole that was too big to overcome. The Bobcats in orange opened up to a 33 to 17 lead by halftime. Corning played much better in the second half but the game was already in hand by the time the black and gold flipped the switch. Leading the way for Corning in scoring was Colby Briney. Briney netted nine points off of three successful three-point shots. He has really come on strong in the latter half of the season. Jayden Wiedeman added eight points to continue his consistent season. Wiedeman looks to be a big part of next season’s team, offensively. Senior Lucas Barajas contributed seven points in his final game of his high school career. Seniors, Chandler Ringo and Dylan Woolard scored two points each in their final game. Head Coach Chris Murray was emotional after the loss exclaiming, “It was a tough way to end the season. I am very proud of the effort and energy these guys put into this season. Their record does not indicate how hard they worked or how much we improved from Day One. I will miss the three seniors very much. I love each and every one of you, guys.” This was a team that lost four of their five starters and a plethora of production from last season’s successful run. There have definitely been learning curves this season but it will only make these boys stronger on and off the court. Don’t be surprised if this team is right back on top of the standings this time next season.
