Jr. Girls steal thrilling victory late in the game over Gosnell

There was a ton of excitement and fingernail biting Monday, January 21 in Corning. The Gosnell Junior Lady Pirates nearly escaped town with a victory, but Corning’s clutch free throw shooting in the waning moments catapulted the Cats to a 35 to 33 victory. Coach Wes Couch had the Lady Cats ready to play early on. Corning swarmed the Pirates defensively, knocked down two three-point shots and jumped out to a 12 to 7 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Pirates quickly went on a run to open the second quarter, and for nearly three full quarters this contest was back and forth. Neither team could get a commanding lead as each team responded well from opposing buckets. It was 15 all at half and 21 all entering the fourth quarter.  It was one of the most physical games I have witnessed this year at any level of high school basketball.
