Former coach/teacher reflects on years at CHS

One of Corning High School’s most successful coaches is enjoying a relaxing retirement after an almost 40-year career. Jerry Sharpe began his coaching career for the Bobcats in 1972 as the assistant coach for the senior high football team, quickly earning the respect of the coaches, athletes and community. Butch Noe for helping him get his start at Corning where, for the first two years, he received no pay. “I didn’t get into coaching for the money,” said Sharpe. “I did it for the students and because I had a passion for sports.” After a few years, Coach Sharpe began coaching other sports on campus.
