Cats complete season sweep of Trumann
Coach Kyle George and the Corning Bobcat’s Baseball team hosted the Trumann Wildcats for a Region 3 3A contest Monday, April 1. Cole Guthrey got the start on the mound for the Bobcats and did not disappoint. Guthrey did a great job of mixing his off speed stuff and plate location in this win. Trumann did get on the board first in the top of the first, but it was from a huge error that allowed the lead off runner a triple on the very first bat. Trumann took advantage and pushed the runner in to score but Guthrey’s confidence didn’t waver. Guthrey would pitch five innings of unearned run baseball before giving up two more in the fifth. The only issue was the Trumann starting pitcher was pitching lights out as well
. The Wildcat’s ace pitched four and a third innings of no hit baseball until the flood gates opened. The Corning bats finally broke through in the fifth inning plating five runs and gaining their first lead of the game 5 to 1. Guthrey would get in a jam in the sixth inning and seventh inning, but worked out of both to preserve to lead and the season sweep for the Bobcats over Trumann. Guthrey hurled a complete game striking out seven batters and only allowing four base hits. The freshman for Corning in the bottom half of the order came up big for the Bobcat bats. Parker Davis knocked in two runs going one for three with a run scored. Rhett Eddington was one for two with a walk and run scored. Camden Hudson was also responsible for a run in the Bobcat win.
