This is August . . . the month known as “National Sandwich” month. “National Nutrition” month and “National Salad” month.

I am in favor.

I could live on salads and sandwiches year around if nothing more than to cut back on the dish washing. But, as a rule, it is usually too hot in August to eat anyway.

We never were very “big” on sandwiches at our house, for more than one reason. The main one being that my dad just about refused to eat a sandwich, as a sandwich.

He never complained, but he would very slowly disassemble the contents of a sandwich, spread them out on a plate and proceed to eat them. He always said that he got enough of sandwich lunches back in his graderdriving days when he carried his lunch to work.
