Our history may be key to the future…

I’ve been doing a great deal of looking into Corning’s history recently to gather information for readers, for information about the Latimer building and because I’m interested. Older residents will remember, but the young and new residents may not know; that Corning was once a bustling town with several businesses. In fact, Corning went through a substantial period of growth in the 1960s and 1970s with an industrial manufacturing boom. My family moved here in the spring of 1972, when I was a child. Corning then, had two car dealerships, about four grocery stores or so, an assortment of clothing stores and dollar-type stores. We had furniture, hardware and sporting goods stores.
