March, the Month of Many Moods

The Rearview Mirror

To paraphrase the famous line from “Forrest Gump,” March is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. I’m referring, of course, to the unpredictable weather.

Mother Nature appears to be suffering from mood swings. The weather can hint of spring one day, only to slam us with a blizzard the next. Within a 24-hour period, there can be thunderstorms, sleet and snow. There are actually “thunder snows” in which the snow falls to the accompaniment of rumbles of thunder. It’s rare, but it does happen.

Those who hate winter think of March as the beginning of spring. For others, like my daughters and me, who don’t look forward to the heat of brutal Oklahoma summers, it’s more like a feeling of dread. My husband looks forward to getting out in the garden, although he knows his hard work will yield very little once that heat takes its toll.
