Filling empty buildings . . . fulfilling dreams

Growing Corning Together held their first annual Recognition Banquet on Sept. 23 and the group looked back on all they had accomplished in a year’s time. It’s miraculous, really, the way this group of motivated residents has jumped in to try to improve our city and breathe life back into her.

We need to keep tipping those dominoes and creating opportunities and good things for Corning. While we should continue doing all that we are doing, it’s time to focus on what to do with empty lots and particularly our empty buildings. I believe that no one can create the Corning of the future, but her residents. We can’t sit around and hope that a large industry moves into Corning and fills one of our empty buildings. We have to think outside our normal box of what we think businesses are or have always been.
