Aligning partners to support local economy

Many people want to talk about the lack of businesses in town with a sense of urgency, but I’ve got news for you, we have employers with job openings that they can’t fill. Many Corning businesses have had ‘Help Wanted’ signs in their windows for a long time. We need to wake up and realize that we are in the middle of a hiring crisis. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently more job openings in the U.S. than there are people looking for work.  No one knows this better than small towns such as ours.

When Charles “Ed” Mabry came into Corning a few months ago to scope it out and see our town through the fresh eyes of a visitor, he stopped at a few businesses and asked what they needed. Each one reported that they needed a workforce. They discussed their frustration at the lack of applicants and people who wanted to work.
