People give little thought to 911 centers until an emergency arises and they are the one making the call for assistance. The state of Arkansas currently has 127 PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Point) or 911 call centers that cover 75 counties.
The Peach Orchard Volunteer Fire Department is very proud to announce that they now have a Blessings Box located at the Peach Orchard Community Center at 172 N.W. Main Street in Peach Orchard. Jennifer Coffer spearheaded the project for those in need. The box is a repurposed newspaper rack from the Clay County Courier.
The Doni Martin Center for Developmental Services was the recent recipient of funds made possible in part by a grant from the North Delta Community Foundation, an affiliate of Arkansas Community Foundation. Funds will be used to update the playground at the agency’s Park Street facility in Pocahontas. Supervisor of the Corning sewer project, Scott Moore with Doxa Construction stated the sewer project is on schedule with hopes for dry weather to continue this week. The crew is working on Bryan Street this week digging to locate gas lines and laying the new 18-inch sewer pipe to replace the old 12-inch pipe.
A special meeting of the Quorum Court was called on Friday, Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Piggott City Hall with all justices present and Justice Rhonda Ahrent attending via phone. Judge Mike Patterson stated that the meeting was to have been at the Piggott Community Center but the community center had been closed due to center employees having contracted the virus as well as their families. “We’re cleaning the courthouse twice a week, but we’re fumigating the thing once a week and both of them. And I don’t know anything else to do, except be careful.” Patterson said he hadn’t called many special meetings during his tenure as judge but he felt this meeting was important to the courthouse roof projects.
