Vietnam veterans honored in Rector event
The second annual Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home in Rector had a great turnout despite the rain on Saturday, March 30. Joey Pruett, an organizer for the event stated, “We were honored to welcome 36 military veterans from towns nearby and towns not so close. One Texan drove 700 miles for the experience.” The event individually recognized several Purple Heart recipients, as well as each Vietnam Veteran that attended. State Representative Joe Jett was the emcee for the ceremony. Governor Asa Hutchinson sent a representative who read a proclamation. Other participants were the Rector High School Band that played the National Anthem and Chrissy Pazanowsky sang patriotic songs.
The Mayor of Rector, Teresa Roofe welcomed veterans and visitors and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Danny Ford recognized the veterans during the ceremony. Members of the Rector VFW presented the Missing Man Table and the Soldier’s Cross. After the ceremony, the veterans and their families enjoyed a meal of catfish and chicken with all the fixings.
