Truck traffic on the increase

It’s no secret to Corning residents that traffic, especially big truck traffic, has increased through town. Peco trucks are part of the reason, but not entirely, as State Rep. Joe Jett explains, “It’s because of the new 67 addition. And once the bridge is opened up at Pocahontas, Corning will see even more traffic because bridge weight law will rise from 360,000 to 800,000. Truckers will want to travel up 67 to St. Louis instead of going from Little Rock to Memphis and up I-55.” Jett continued, “Right now most truckers’ GPS data base has 67 North going through Pocahontas off limits to them because of the current bridge law. Once the bridge is open and the data base is updated, transient truck traffic will exponentially increase.”
