Treadway finds talent as spring practice begins
The Corning Bobcats had a good turnout on the first day of spring practice on Monday, May 13 with approximately 30 players coming out. Coach Treadway expects a few more to come out before week’s end.
So far the coach is pleased with what he has observed. “There’s some kids that can run and I’ve got some big kids,” he said referring to players such as, Jared Selig - 280 lbs., Dakota Wilkins - 320 lbs. “We’re going to be in a spread with these kids and Clay (Smith) can run and throw, Jake (Gutierrez) can run, Gary (Comstock) can run, Jordan (Grubb) can catch anything. I’ve never seen a kid with hands like he’s got.” As for their past record the coach said, “You’ve just got to ask yourself, “What’s not happening?” We’ll see. I’ve been a lot of places where I’ve had less than that.”
The head coach is also pleased with his assistant coaches. “I’ve got a couple good assistants. These boys are going to be good. As I tell people, I let them work.” Treadway believes that in allowing assistant coaches to work, they get more involved and enthused. Coach Tyler Golden and Treadway will post the line together but eventually Golden will call the defense. “He will get to where he gets comfortable and it will mean more to him. That’s what I hope happens.”
