Riceland holds district membership meeting

Opportunity with China both political and commercial

Friday, February 22 at the M.B. Ainley, Jr. Community Center Riceland members met for their annual district membership meeting. Attendees enjoyed a lunch of beef tips along with variouis side dishes and Rice Krispy treats for dessert.

Bill Free, Manager of the Stuttgart Grain Dryer Coop, kicked off the meeting with a presentation on last year’s long grain percent of class by variety. He reported that X753: 25%, Diamond: 19%, X745: 17% and Gemini: 11% were the top four varieties Riceland received. He added that Riceland does have a preferred long grain variety list for 2019-20, which is XL 745, XL 753, CL 153, CL 172, Diamond, and LaKast. These varieties work best for milling and for customers. Preferred Medium Grain varieties are Jupiter and Titan. Free told members, “We really need another medium grain variety. A former highbred medium grain did not work out well at all.”
