Recruiting begins for Census 2020
Jerre Turner, with the Census Bureau, spoke to Chamber members during the February luncheon on Monday, February 4, concerning the upcoming 2020 Census and the need for workers to conduct this important work.
Turner’s purpose in speaking to community leaders is to recruit workers for the 2020 Census. He told the audience that the pay is $14 an hour and 58 cents a mile, if someone uses their own vehicle. Turner said the pay is good money for a retired person or a college student. Workers are paid weekly. In Clay County, 18 workers will be hired. At the peak of operation there will be a need for 150 people. There’s a vetting program and stringent background check for each applicant. The work schedule is flexible. You must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older with a valid social security number and email address. There’s a need for people who speak Spanish or other languages.
