More parking space for child development centers
Residents may have noticed that the house on 414 W. Third, that many may remember in years past was Eaton Land and Realty, has been torn down. The Virginia Atkinson Child Development Center is next door. BRAD hosts two child development centers on Third Street: the Corning Child Development Center and the Virginia Atkinson Child Development Center. The Corning Child Development Center has a Head Start class, Statefunded Pre-K classroom, and a blended Head Start Pre-K class. These classes serve children ages 3-5 years. The Virginia Atkinson Child Development Center hosts four Head Start classes which serve children 0-3 years of age. It was reported to the city council last fall that parking and traffic was an issue in that vicinity due to the number of parents and children utilizing the two child development centers.
Last fall BRAD Child Development Programs requested to the city an amendment to a contract concerning a property at 419 W. Third Street housing the Virginia Atkinson Child Development Center. In November the council voted to approve the request by BRAD to amend the current contract concerning the center in order to purchase an “Expansion Lot”, consisting of two lots and a building adjacent to the Virginia Atkinson Child Development Center in order to create more parking for the centers.
