Fishing Derby set for Saturday - June 8

The annual fishing derby at William H. Donham State Fish Hatchery will be Saturday, June 8. Manager Mark Harrell explains, “The hours have changed this year and it is being held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., rain or shine. We are going to have some educational things for the kids, such as a BB gun range to learn shooting and safety, kayaking to learn some boater’s education and safety, and knot tying to learn how to tie knots for fishing. Kids can go to any of the three stations during the derby.”

Due to the prediction of rain on Saturday, parking will be around the main office building. Wildlife Officers will be there to help with parking. Harrell said that the field will be too soft and muddy to park. “If a storm blows in we ask that people return to their vehicles until the storm passes and then they may return fishing.”
