Clay County honored as Purple Heart County

Clay County received a prestigious and patriotic honor on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 when it was declared a Purple Heart County. Commander Everett Evans, Mickey Hoggard and Freddie Herren, members of Chapter 708 of the Military Order of the Purple Hearts in Jonesboro came to Corning to present a plague and a Purple Heart sign to Clay County and to County Judge Mike Patterson. Being designated as a Purple Heart County means that a sign will be placed at all entrances coming into Clay County. A plaque will be placed in the Eastern and Western District Courthouses. The plaque reads in part, “The Military Order of the Purple Heart Recognition Award is bestowed with pride to Clay County, Arkansas. For your dedication and support. Honoring America’s Combat Wounded Veterans. Becoming the Purple Heart County.”
