BRTC reimagines college as gunsmithing program is approved

Friday, January 31, brought exciting news to the campus of Black River Technical College as the Arkansas Division of Higher Education (ADHE) approved BRTC to offer a 2-year Associate of Applied Science in Gunsmithing Technology, a 1-year Technical Certificate in Gunsmithing Technology, and three 1-semester certificates of proficiency in Gunsmithing Technology.

BRTC‘s gunsmithing program will be the only one like it in the nation to make law enforcement inclusion part of the curriculum. “We feel here at Black River Technical College that we are unique in that we have a law enforcement training academy on our campus which will bring a considerable layer of safety for this program. We want to stress that. It’s definitely going to be a priority for us to make sure we are doing this in a safe manner,” explained Dr. Brad Baine, BRTC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs.
