Breaking streak not enough for Bobcats

Head Coach Larry Treadway and the Corning Bobcats were recently featured in the 2020 High School Football Media Day held Friday, July 24. Every year Soncom Media hosts a live stream broadcast and provides an insider view of northeast Arkansas high school football teams; their coaches and players. The event was sponsored by NEA Sports, Northeast Arkansas Fox and Soncom Media Productions. Hosts for Friday’s event were Ryan Fletcher, Steve Clayton, along with Brandon Reid and Blake Guinn. The broadcast began at 8:30 a.m. with the Corning Bob-cats appearing on the live stream at 9:45 a.m. Bobcat Head Coach Larry Treadway provided insights into the mindset and plans for the upcoming football season along with players, Nikota Amiker - quarterback, running back and defensive back, Jake Gutierrez - running back, quarterback and safety and Clayton Crosby - running back, defensive back, outside backer. Treadway explained, “These kids play a lot of positions. All three of these guys are skilled people,” he continued, “I list a lot of things with them because they play a lot of positions. These three guys have never come off the field. And at Corning, we'll have 25 to 30 kids and all these kids will have to play.”

Treadway described the scenario of stepping into the head coach position at Corning in the 2019 season. “We went into the season last year and I was surprised, you know?” We had more than 30, 35 kids come out for football, stepping into a situation like that, where they had lost 42 games. I didn't know if we'd have 10 kids come out for football, but you know, they did. And that's attributed to the parents or grandparents or to these kids in general, but they came out, we went to ball games, we broke the streak, we got things moving.” He explained how the team had a chance to win two or three more ball games and things just didn't fall their way. “I know we played real close with a Walnut Ridge game that came down to a one touchdown late in the game there. And we had those guys down 20 at one time. So we made some strides. We didn't get it all done like we'd liked to, but I think we're lining things up right now.”
