137 year old headstone mystery leads to search for owner

It’s not often someone finds a headstone in their yard. Corning resident, Sue Taylor has had a headstone in her yard for as long as she has lived at her residence on Second Street. “We found it a long time ago. That’s been here as long as I’ve lived here,” she said. She could see just enough of the stone to tell it was granite. The headstone was found on the south side of her house in a corner. “It used to be covered up by dirt until rain water from the house washed it away revealing a part of the stone,” explained Taylor. “Nobody’s planted it since I’ve been here. It was covered up. It’s been there but at one time you couldn’t tell it was there. Gradually the ground has washed away and you could see a little bit of it. It was turned face down and you just see part of it.”
