Opportunistic Cougars stave off Jr. Bobcats and bad weather - 16 to 6

Rector took advantage of Corning miscues, fought off a late charging Bobcat team and weathered the heavy precipitation Thursday, September 6 in Corning for a big victory. Corning elected to receive the opening kickoff and proceeded to march down the field gashing the Cougar defense. The drive started at the Bobcats own 28 yard line and four runs later the Cats found themselves in a first and 10 from the Rector 23 yard line. A bobbled snap on first down and a false start penalty on second down, put Corning way behind the chains. T

he Cats backpedaled and faced a fourth and 17 and went to the air. Landon Lucas threw a nice tight spiral and gave his receiver Parker Davis a chance. A Cougar defensive back grabbed onto Davis’ jersey and held Davis up enough to break up the timing of the route and no pass interference was called. The once promising drive sputtered out with a little over four minutes left in the opening quarter. Corning’s defense answered the bell early forcing a Cougar fumble and turnover on Rector’s first possession of the night.
