Clifton recipient of Hannah Blankenship Memorial Scholarship
The 2020 recipient of the Hannah Blankenship Memorial Scholarship is Katie Clifton of Corning. Katie has chosen a career in Wildlife Veterinary Medicine with plans to matriculate into the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Katie has chosen this career because of her love for helping animals but also because she places a high value on conservation and environmental protection. This year’s award has special significance for Katie and for the Blankenship and Horner families. This year was Hannah’s graduation year and Katie was also Hannah’s classmate since Pre-k. The two competed in academics during their high school years, with Hannah encouraging Katie and other girls within her class to become active members of FFA. When asked about her choice to be in FFA, Katie said, “Hannah didn’t give me a choice! She insisted that I do it!” Hannah believed that FFA led the way to many promising careers in agriculture and she didn’t want anyone to miss an opportunity to find a place where they excelled. She knew that FFA was the place to begin.
